Google Releases Emergency Chrome Update

Five High-Severity Vulnerabilities Patched – Immediate Update Required

Published: November 7, 2025

⚠️ Action Required: All Chrome users on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS must update immediately to protect against active exploitation.

What Happened?

Google has pushed an emergency security update for Chrome to address five newly discovered vulnerabilities, including a critical out-of-bounds write flaw in WebGPU that could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected systems.

The update was released across all supported platforms after internal security teams and external researchers identified active exploitation attempts in the wild.

Key Vulnerabilities Patched

  • Critical: Out-of-bounds write in WebGPU – Allows remote code execution via malicious web content.
  • High Severity: Memory corruption in the Views component – Could lead to browser crashes or code injection.
  • High Severity: Use-after-free in V8 JavaScript engine – Enables attackers to corrupt memory and run unauthorized code.
  • Two additional high-severity flaws in Chrome’s rendering and networking layers.

Who Is at Risk?

Any user running Chrome versions prior to the emergency patch is vulnerable. This includes:

  • Desktop users on Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Mobile users on Android and iOS
  • Enterprise environments using Chrome Browser

Attackers can exploit these flaws by tricking users into visiting a malicious website — no interaction beyond loading the page is required.

How to Update Chrome Immediately

Desktop (Windows/macOS/Linux):

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
  3. Go to Help > About Google Chrome.
  4. Chrome will automatically check for updates and install the latest version.
  5. Click Relaunch to apply the patch.

Mobile (Android/iOS):

  1. Open the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
  2. Search for "Chrome".
  3. Tap Update if available.
  4. Alternatively, enable auto-updates for Chrome in your app settings.

Best Practices to Stay Safe

  • Always keep Chrome and your operating system up to date.
  • Enable Enhanced Protection in Chrome’s Privacy and Security settings.
  • Avoid clicking suspicious links or visiting untrusted websites.
  • Use a reputable ad blocker to reduce exposure to malicious ads.
  • Regularly clear browsing data and review site permissions.
